AT THE ROXY IN HOLLYWOOD, MARCH 13, 1998

First Official 1998 show review from James:

Columbia recently sponsored this contest, now over:

Roxy 3-13-98

Soul Asylum played a private show Friday 3/13 at the Roxy in Hollywood. It was a Radio Convention show and featured 3 bands. Y-Score, Soul Asylum, and Tonic (in that order).

Well, in one word it was AMAZING! Even though I have only seen them like 5 times before I can safely say it was one of the best. Even though there may have been one or two glitches, the new drummer fits in perfect. The right amount of chops and attitude. The band was totally fired up(or at least fooled us if they weren't) and the show was great. Since it was a private show (no tickets for sale) the club was only 3/4 full which meant I could walk right up to the stage and stand a foot away from one of my favorite bands rockin' there ass off. The set list was mainly from the new album with one or two from DIM LIGHT and GRAVEtrfd.jpg (7735 bytes) DANCERS (unfortunately nothing older than that).

Here is the set list:

I WILL STILL BE LAUGHING
SEE YA LATER
CLOSE
BLACK GOLD
NO TIME FOR WAITING
BLOOD INTO WINE
CREATURES OF HABIT
MISERY
BLACK OUT
NEW WORLD
LIES OF HATE
CRADLE CHAIN.

I am really looking forward to the new album because just hearing the songs once (and live) they clicked right away as GREAT songs. CLOSE and BLOOD INTO WINE stood out but they were all great. I feel lucky that I went, it
was a great show!
For those who care, celebrity sightings were Bill Pullman and Winona Ryder(who came in with Dave and Dan).
