The band was set to cut demos
this past summer for the next release, expected in '97, as well
as premiering the new material at a surprise show at Minneapolis' 7th
Street Entry. Soul Asylum showed up,
under the name
"The Overreactors" as the opening
band for "The Carpetbaggers."
A 62 minute set of only new material was previewed this night for the lucky
crowd. Dave was on electric piano on a few songs, along with his regular
guitar duties, Karl on bass, Sterling on drums and one Randy Jackson on
keyboards. Pirner sang lead vocals on all songs except for "Dreams
Deferred"- yet another fine Dan Murphy tune.
