Chris Wagner here. I had the opportunity to catch the boys at the WBRU
95.5 free summer concert series. I love SA, but I try to be as
objective as possible....here goes:

The guys came on at 6:30pm on a beautiful sunny day near the water at
India Point Park. Appeared on stage in shades and with a cigarette as
they began the intro to I Will Still Be Laughing. Dave was in mid-drag
when he realized he had to sing the opening line.....he spit the smoke
out, but was caught off guard, knocked his glasses off and bungled the
opening lines.....then laughed. The band completed a really tight
version of the song and the show progressed from there. They got some
relatively tight, yet uninspired versions of Somebody to Shove and Black
Gold out of the way early on and concentrated on the Candy From A
Stranger material.

The new songs were impressively tight and Dave and the boys were
definitely more interested and invested in the new songs than the older
material. The crowd was a mixed bag......as free concerts often
produce...and so I think the enthusiasm of the crowd could have been a
bit better had it been comprised strictly of SA fans. The guys churned
out a few more crowd pleasers like Misery, Just Like Anyone, and a
Wycleff Jean song about "November" and ended the show with Candy From A
Stranger....one of the songs from last year's mini-East Coast tour that
didn't make it onto the album.

Standouts during the show were Misery....which blended into a few bars
of Silly Love Songs, No Time for Waiting(which will hopefully be the
next single), Blood Into Wine, and Creatures Of Habit. Overall the show
was tight, the sound very clear and well mixed, and the guys were
strangely quiet on-stage uttering only an occasinal "Thanks" at the end
of a few songs. The band finished around 8pm and then were kind enough
(and probably contractually obligated) to sign autographs for a while.

I got to say hello and Dave and Dan were particularly friendly, although
the seemed like they'd rather be doing anything else but signing. Dave
kept smiling and rolling his eyes....it was rather amusing.

All in all a great show.....Dave said to expect a club tour in the later
part of the summer.
