Soul Asylum atsdgg.jpg (8134 bytes) Tramps 5-15-98
a review from Christian Bladt
I was fortunate enough to be able to see Soul Asylum rock the house
on Friday, May 15th at Tramps in New York. It was a sold out show, that
apparently was recorded for broadcast on the Album Radio Network at some
later date.

The set list, was:

I will still be laughing
see you later
cradle chain
black gold
close
creatures of habit
somebody to shove
no time for waiting
blood into wine
new world (the set list said that they would play either this or
"runaway train"; the went for new world)
New York Blackout (of course)
Misery (which somewhat dissolved into paul mccartney's "silly love
songs" for a moment, which dave dedicated to Linda McCartney)
lies of hate
just like anyone
rambling rose

Then came the encore:
This was the day we found out about Frank
Sinatra's passing, and, as I had called it, they did a (very) little bit
of "My Way" when they came out. Then it was a fantastic version of
Wycleaf Jean's gone til november.

And, finally, candy from a stranger, which I was pleased to see
included.

All in all a fantastic evening. As always, I was much happier with the
material from the new album once I saw them perform it live. I'll be
seeing them in New Jersey again on Tuesday, and if it is even half as
good as Friday's show, I will still be happy.
Now, all I have to do is find out when the show is going to air on the
radio...
