Dan: I was in a band called At Last. We were going to be called Late
City Edition, but Karl made a sign in metal shop that said, "At
Last" and we played progressive rock-and-roll.
Karl: You did not! You played Led Zeppelin and Tom Petty.
Marc: Yeah, Let's talk about Loud Fast Rules.
Dan: Loud Fast Rules was a rocking punk band. Dave (Pirner) was our
drummer, and Karl was our bass player and I was our singer.
Marc: Loud Fast Rules was what year to what year?
Dan: 1961 to 1990.
Dan: Dave had his lawn-mowing franchises going...
Marc: He wasn't at Tracy's, cooking burgers yet?
Karl: Yeah he was.
Dan: But we used to practice in Karl's ma's garage and we had this
rock thing. I thought it was fun. We would get together twice a week.
Made a racket.
Marc: Between Loud Fast Rules and Soul Asylum, what were you guys
doing?
Dan: It took us about a year to come up with a new name for the band.
We were going to be the Rugburns. That was one.
Karl: Strichnine Twist.
Dan: Bore Me To Death. BMTD. It took us a year to rename our band.
That should tell you a lot about us. We had a lot of bad ones.
Chancre Colony.
