SOUL ASYLUM at Oakdale Theater, Wallingford, CT 8/11/98

Just got back from Wallingford 6 hours ago. This includes a few hours
of sleep and an hour drive to work. Another great show on the MB20 tour. Not as
energetic as Great Woods, but still good. Hell, even a poor Soul Asylum show is better
than most bands best shows.

Again, standard set list except no Jump, and no Candy From A Stranger.
So the set closed with Just Like Anyone. The reason for this: during the jam
at the end of Just Like Anyone, you know the maniacal part, were Karl steps out of Dave's way, and Dave swings his guitar and stumbles around the stage, Dave accidental backed up too far, and knocked over his guitar amp. It looked like a Who concert. In addition to this, one of the overhead drum mics also got knocked over. After Dave stood around looking at the mess, they walked off the stage.

Also, another interesting tidbit. Dave sported a big baby blue Electric
guitar during Close. First time I've ever seen it.
The crowd was quite hostile tonite. Again, everyone was screwed down
tightly to their seats. Luckily since I had a pole directly behind me, I was
able to stand w/o being assaulted. I stood for the whole show, but I was lonely, being about 4 feet above crowd level! Even the Shove/Gold/Train combo could not bring people out of their seats. Not to worry though, there was plenty of cheering (and young girls screaming!). They did well for themselves.
The sound has been decent the past few nights. I don't think the P.A.
they're using is the greatest, but Eric is doing well. He's really dialed in Dave's voice to highlight the "croke" and desparation in his voice. Sorry to have to use the word "croke" but I'm sure most of you know the certain strain Dave has in his voice that we all love.

Again, same comments about MB20 as Great Woods. They're kinda cheesey. But hell do young girls like 'em! What a crowd. Let's hope next tour, we get something a bit more pleasant.

That's it for me - 6 shows this year. Enjoy the rest of the tour and
keep us posted!
